Festival of Sheep & Farming & Village Show
Bank Holiday Weekend – 29th & 30th August
Welcome to the Kentmere and Staveley Sheep Weekend. Two villages uniting to celebrate a shared heritage and tradition, and to enjoy fun for all ages. On Saturday, Staveley Sheep Day, numerous events happening around the village, with the main event and the Staveley Village Show, in the Village Hall. Then on Sunday, the Kentmere Sheep Show, a chance to witness tradition in action and see some of the area’s finest sheep and handlers. Also featuring a Fun Dog Show.
Staveley Sheep Day
Saturday, 29th August
Join us in Staveley for a full day of sheep-related fun, activities, and entertainment. From early morning until evening, the village will come alive with events for all the family. The main event is based around the Village Hall, with activities spread throughout the village.
Sheep Facts
Did you know? The Herdwick sheep is native to the fells of the Lake District and has been part of this landscape for centuries. Hardy and resilient, Herdwicks can survive harsh mountain winters and are known for their distinctive grey fleece. Beatrix Potter was a passionate breeder of Herdwick sheep.
Wool Wonder
Discover the journey from fleece to fabric. Watch demonstrations of wool spinning, weaving, and felting. Learn about the incredible properties of natural wool — it’s fire-resistant, biodegradable, and naturally water-repellent. Local artisans will be showing their craft throughout the day.
What's On
A full programme of events will be announced closer to the date. Expect sheep judging, children’s activities, craft stalls, local food and drink, live music, and much more. Keep an eye on this page for updates.

Kentmere Sheep Show
Sunday, 30th August
The Kentmere Sheep Show is a traditional event held in the beautiful Kentmere valley. This year we are reviving and expanding this much-loved local tradition. Come and see some of the finest Herdwick and Swaledale sheep in the area, expertly handled by local farmers who have dedicated their lives to these hardy breeds.
Schedule
Full schedule of classes and judging times will be published closer to the event. Classes will include Herdwick, Swaledale, and cross-bred sheep, with both adult and junior handler categories. A printed schedule will also be available on the day.
Details
The show takes place in the Kentmere valley — one of the most scenic locations in the Lake District. Parking will be available nearby. The event is suitable for all ages and is family-friendly. Please wear suitable footwear as the ground may be uneven.
Dog Show
Our Fun Dog Show is open to all dogs — no pedigree required! Classes include Best Rescue, Most Handsome, Waggiest Tail, Dog the Judge Would Most Like to Take Home, and Best Junior Handler. Entry forms will be available on the day. Prizes for all rosette winners.

Staveley Village Show
Saturday, 29th August
The Staveley Village Show takes place in the Village Hall and is a celebration of local produce, crafts, and community spirit. From homemade jams and baked goods to garden vegetables and floral arrangements, there is something for everyone to enter or admire.
Schedule
The show schedule, including judging times and prize-giving ceremony, will be published here soon. The hall opens to the public from midday, with judging taking place in the morning.
Entry Form
Entry forms for the Village Show will be available to download here closer to the event. All residents and visitors are welcome to enter. There are classes for adults and children alike.
Rules
Full rules and regulations for the Village Show will be published here. Classes follow standard village show guidelines. All produce must be grown or made by the exhibitor.
Event Details
The Village Show will be held in Staveley Village Hall. Tables will be set up for display from 8am. Judging takes place in the morning. The hall opens to the public from 12 noon. Prize-giving will take place at 4pm.
